چکیده
Ultra-narrow optical spectral features resulting from highly dispersive light–matter interactions are essential for a broad range of applications such as spectroscopy, slow-light and high-precision sensing. Features approaching sub-megahertz or, equivalently, Q-factors up to one billion beyond, challenging obtain in solid-state systems, ultimately limited by loss. We present novel approach achieve tunable at room temperature without resonators. exploit gain-enhanced polarization pulling twisted birefringent medium where eigenmodes frequency-dependent. Using Brillouin gain commercial spun fibre, we experimentally 0.72 MHz dip, the narrowest backward scattering feature ever reported. Further optimization can potentially reduce linewidth <0.1 MHz. Our is simple broadly applicable, offering on-demand tunability high sensitivity, with wide microwave photonic filters, slow fast light, Tunable demonstrated The approach, which exploits medium, may be useful

Gain-Free Square Root Information Filtering Using the Spectral Decomposition
A new square root state estimation algorithm is introduced, that operates in the information mode in both the time and the measurement update stages. The algorithm, called the V-Lambda filter, is based on the spectral decomposition of the covariance matrix into a V\V form, where V is the matrix whose columns are the eigenvectors of the covariance matrix, and A is the diagonal matrix of its eige...
متن کاملGain, noise and intermodulation in a nonlinear superconducting resonator
*Correspondence: [email protected] 2Nanostructure Physics, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden Full list of author information is available at the end of the article Abstract A superconducting microwave resonator is modified with several weak links to make it nonlinear and operated as a phase-insensitive microwave amplifier. Signal gain is demonstrated by intermodulation with a...
متن کاملMulticolor operation and spectral control in a gain-modulated x-ray free-electron laser.
We show that the spectral properties of a self-amplified spontaneous emission x-ray free-electron laser can be controlled by modulating the gain in magnetic undulators, thus producing one or several spectral lines within a single few femtosecond pulse. By varying the magnetic field along the undulator and the electron beam transport line, the system we demonstrate can tailor the x-ray spectrum ...
متن کاملA Wideband High-gain Stacked Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna
Abstract—A new wideband and high-gain dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is proposed. Three cylindrical dielectric resonators (DRs) with different materials and different sizes and a metallic cylinder are designed to obtain a wideband bandwidth and a high gain. The stacked structure provides a wideband bandwidth, and the cavity formed by the metallic cylinder provides a high gain. The measured ...
متن کاملTwisted split-ring-resonator photonic metamaterial with huge optical activity.
Coupled split-ring-resonator metamaterials have previously been shown to exhibit large coupling effects, which are a prerequisite for obtaining large effective optical activity. By a suitable lateral arrangement of these building blocks, we completely eliminate linear birefringence and obtain pure optical activity and connected circular optical dichroism. Experiments around a 100 THz frequency ...
